Heat and sun hydration
Sun and heat deplete electrolytes faster than plain water can replace them, while UV exposure increases oxidative stress across the body. Knowing how to manage both means you stay sharper, recover faster, and protect your skin from the inside out.
Spending extended time in heat and sun creates two problems that compound each other. Sweat takes sodium, potassium, and magnesium out of your body faster than plain water can put them back. At the same time, UV exposure triggers an oxidative stress response in your skin and immune system that burns through your antioxidant reserves. Most people manage one or the other, but not both at once.
What is happening
The hydration piece comes down to electrolyte balance, not just water volume. When your sodium and potassium levels drop, your cells lose their ability to retain fluid, and thirst alone becomes an unreliable signal. Drinking plain water in that state can actually dilute your electrolyte concentration further. Replacing what you lose with a properly dosed electrolyte keeps cellular hydration working as it should throughout the day.
Vitamin C handles the UV side of the equation. It's a primary antioxidant in skin tissue, and your body pulls from those stores heavily when you're exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. A consistent vitamin C intake can support normal antioxidant function during periods of high sun exposure. This is support language, not a substitute for shade, clothing or sunscreen.

If your days regularly involve heat, outdoor activity, or long sun exposure, build both habits into your routine before they become necessary. By the time dehydration or fatigue sets in, you're already playing catch-up. Staying ahead of both gives the body a better baseline across the full day.
